Bill Delaney Walks for Haiti
Walking for Haiti
In mid-February, Bill Delaney, parishioner and Haiti Outreach Team Member who has been to Haiti seven times, was given a challenge he was not sure he could achieve. He had just had major back surgery (a spinal fusion), and was told by his orthopaedic surgeon that in order for the bones to fuse well, he should be walking nine miles a day within three months following his operation. Yikes! NINE MILES A DAY? The surgeon said: “That’s only three miles, three times a day.”
Bill knew he was going to need some major motivation in order to walk that many miles. Then he had a thought. “What if, during my walks, I think of the people in Haiti, and especially the children of St. Joseph Family Homes, whose lives have been so devastated by the recent earthquake? Better yet, why don’t I walk to raise funds for their ‘resurrection from the rubble’?” And that is what he decided to do.
From April 16th to May 16th, he is going to challenge himself to try to walk nine miles each day. He will use a pedometer and keep a log of his miles walked. If anyone would like to both motivate Bill and help the children of St. Joseph’s Family Homes in Haiti, this is how you can help:
1) If you would like to make a pledge of any amount per mile, e-mail your pledge to Bill at wedtwo@yahoo.com. When he has completed his walk, he will send you a return e-mail with the number of miles he completed. You can then write out a tax-deductible check payable to SFC – Haiti Outreach, and mail it to:
Bill Delaney at 1609 Skyline Drive, Cedarburg, WI 53012
or
2) If you would like to make a donation of a set dollar amount, not a pledge per mile, just make out your check and mail it to Bill as stated above.
